Our Inspiration

The Mandali was founded by four visionary Primary teachers – Krishnaji Ballal Dongre, Damodar Sadashiv Karambelkar, Ramchandra Bhikaji Kulkarni, and Ramchandra Gopal Deo with strong guidance from the eminent educationist Vishnushastri Chiplunkar. Their mission was to provide quality education in Marathi, aligning with the spirit of the freedom struggle. The first institution, Nutan Marathi Vidyalaya, was established in Pune in 1883, and the parent body was institutionalized in 1888.

Sir Parashurambhau College was the First College established by S. P. Mandali in 1918, at Pune. Then the Mandali expanded its footprint to Mumbai, founding Ruia College in 1937 and Podar College of Commerce. In 1941, Tilak College of Education was established as the first private teacher training institute in Maharashtra. Today, S.P. Mandali operates 45 institutions, including one in Bangalore’s electronic city campus. These institutions include pre-primary, primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools, colleges for Arts, Science, and Commerce, a school for hearing-impaired children, a therapeutic drug monitoring laboratory, and an institute for research in Ayurvedic and Herbal Medicine.

S.P. Mandali remains dedicated to fostering an environment that encourages free thinking and quality education, continuing its rich tradition of educational excellence across its many institutions.
